About Us
The Commission for the Support of Victims of Crime is an independent body which operates under the aegis of the Department of Justice and Equality. Its functions are:
- To assist in the development, with the Victims of Crime Office, of strategies and policies to support victims of crime with a view to improving cohesion and consistency of service and information available to victims of crime.
- To provide financial assistance to voluntary bodies that support victims of crime.
- To take account of the views of victims in the formulation of strategies and policies through the Victims of Crime Consultative Forum.
- To develop strong links with Government Departments and agencies of the criminal justice system, in the interest of victims of crime.
- To co-operate with Cosc and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit in particular.
- To promote co-operation and co-ordination between the organisations it funds and State Agencies and between the funded organisations themselves.
- To encourage the provision of services for victims of crime in all areas of the country.
- To keep informed of international developments in relation to victims of crime.
- To work in association with the Victims of Crime Office.
- To keep under review the effectiveness of the Victims Charter.
- To promote awareness of the services available to victims of crime.
- To carry out research to support its mission.
